Thx Brentford. Well there are many that are saying, me included, that Kouyate is not a holding / defensive midfielder as he looks to link defence and attack with surging runs etc... So there may be a role for Poyet in some games, especially against the top sides, where we want a player to sit deep in the style of Makele, to protect the defence, close down the opposition, win the second ball and 50:50s etc,.. Of course, these would be games where we would expect to be more of a 19th century side. I would think a central midfield 3 with Poyet and Kayoute or Noble in front of the back four and 1 more in the link up role in front (again could be Noble or Kouyate), 2 wide men and a striker (in a 4-2-3-1 formation) would be very combative and make any opposition work hard to get anything. If we have some quicker options like Valencia, Zarate or Lee in the advanced midfield or up top, we would also be nicely set up for counter attacking.

Of course, would need a manager to try something like that. So sounds like Poyet could have a place, certainly in games we where we want to stifle the opposition, but we might well need a change of manager to see him get the DM role :)

The fat slob was right in one respect though; some of our fans truly are deluded; it's just ironic that the deluded ones are those who have their tongues constantly inserted up his rancid shitter.

Alf, Poyet looked like a real player, defensive mid / holding type, strong in the tackle, comfortable on the ball and a good passer.
Was my MOTM.
Only prob is he plays same role as Kayoute so can't see him getting many starts.

Hehe, yeah that of course, Well just to know he is a tad quicker than Noble, Nolan etc... That should not be too difficult you would hope ? ;-)

It's football. You win some, you lose some. Shame we don't win our fair share but the reality is everyone has had more than enough of BFS unless he keeps winning games....

To anybody that went, and apologies if there is already a post on this already, but I would appreciate some insight on the performance of Poyet who, by all accounts, seemed to be a real positive on the night?

What role did he play?
What seemed to be his strengths and weaknesses?
Is he a decent passer of the ball, does he work hard and close down the opposition?
Who could he, in theory, replace in central midfield if BS was to rotate the squad?

Cheers!

Give the kids a chance lets get valencia out there are two of the best ones before last night.
Actualy heard someone shouting playing too many passes last night along with stop rolling it out to the back 4 and get it forward.

My favourite rule is not commenting on games you haven't seen. That should stay in place.

Come on, we all know the rules.

If you lose a game it doesn't actually matter as we've lost games in the past. Any comment about said defeat means you hate West Ham.

given the history involved i'd say the result is pretty embarassing.
league 1 oppo at home and we sit back at 1-0.

it seems the result at palace had granted BFS some leeway.

It's amazing how these days we can lose at home to Spurs. lose at home to league 1 oppo, and some just shrug their shoulders and say get over it. I remember when defeat use to hurt and we had pride. Still, that's modern day football for ya..

Mohammed Diame for MOTM was a weird one. I didnt know that the award was based on how many times you passed the ball straight to the opposition.

It's a tinpot cup.

It's a tinpot cup until the round we enter it, and becomes one again the moment we leave it.

we also have a history of being relegated twice in the past ten seasons, does that make it OK to be relegated again?

So because we've lost to lesser sides in the past, that somehow excuses last night's debacle? How old are you? 10?

Re: Official Match Thread West Ham United 1(4)- Sheffield United 1(5) - Sheff Utd win on Pens
I cannot believe we lost to Sheffield United a team lower down the leagues than us. I mean it's not like we have any history of this happening before so it must all be the fat cunt's fault, oh and all the new players, shit, all of them.

It's not like we have lost to sides like Mansfield, Blackpool, Torquay, Newport County, Stockport County, Aldershot, Oldham, Tranmere, Northampton etc because that would make it par for the course, which of course it isnt now is it.

One Mac is probably right. We would have had a better chance winning the game with less changes in the lineup.

That said, I'm glad we introduced some youngsters and newbies.

A note on Burke, he isn't the quickest so he will need to read the game really well to not get caught out.

He seemed to struggle when the quick black fella came on.
